dr. denise dillon

Head of Academic Group Psychology and Education

James Cook University Singapore, JCUS

Dr Denise Dillon is the Head of Academic Group Psychology and Education at the Singapore campus of James Cook University (JCU). Denise’s long-standing interest in the ways that people interact with and respond to the natural environment contributed to her PhD in Psychology, with a focus on how people discuss and think about values in the context of World Heritage protected areas. Since settling in Singapore in May 2008, she has taught into a range of undergraduate Psychology topics including Environmental Psychology, which is an applied field that is relatively unaddressed in most undergraduate courses. Denise leads a research cluster with a focus on urban biophilia.

 

She is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Tropical Psychology, a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS), and a member of the Association for the Study of Literature & Environment (ASLE).  Denise’s research interests include biophilia/biophobia and technobiophilia, attention restoration, and human-environment and human-nonhuman animal interactions.

Peter is a trained Social Worker and Organisational Psychologist who started his career in the Police Psychological Unit (now a full-fledged Department) way back in 1993. He left the Police Force and subsequently spent most of his career as a HR/Organisation Development professional in the private sector, helping MNCs with their talent, leadership and organisational performance issues.  He returned to the social services sector in 2015 to head up the Community Psychology Hub (CPH), and is happy to rediscover his roots. He has a family of 3 children who are quickly moving into their teenaged years.

Bernadette is an Educational Psychologist with the Community Psychology Hub. Her 4 year stint with the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) propelled her to take the leap in enrolling into the Master of Arts (Applied Psychology) programme at the National Institute of Education (NIE). Her affinity with the social service sector continues in her current role within a team providing therapy services to children in mainstream preschools. In her free time, Bernadette can be found absorbed in the latest episodes of American / British TV series.

Alva believes in working on the ground to empower fellow human beings who need an extra hand or an extra voice to tide through difficulties. That is why she joined Community Psychology Hub as a Clinical Psychologist. On most days, she is deployed to an EIPIC centre where she does assessment and intervention with young children with special needs, as well as with their families. On other days, she comes home to CPH where the most serious and fun conversations occur. Before CPH, she worked as an associate psychologist in Pathlight School and was an intern psychologist at NUH, National Cancer Centre Singapore, and JCU Psychology Clinic. She graduated with a First Class Honours degree at NUS and a Master’s degree at JCU, during which she was elected as valedictorian twice. More importantly, she loves how Psychology continues to fascinate her every day.

Her work at CPH focuses on disability-research projects. She attempts to gain insights on human variability by interacting with different groups of people through voluntary work.

Roy Tan is the ASEAN Commercial Head with the Safety Science & Technology Company, Underwriters Laboratories, for the past 5 years. He is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from Consumer Safety to Fire Safety at Fire & Rescue organizations and schools across South-east Asia.

 

Roy has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and an MBA in Strategic Marketing. He then joined the Association of Psychotherapists and Counsellors Singapore after graduating in his Psychology. With that, his opportunities and deep passion for motivating, coaching and nurturing young people to realize their full potential in their studies, career or personal goals has tremendously been cultivated in this field.

 

Cheryl Ko received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University at Buffalo, State University of New York. She is a behavioural therapist who has been working closely with special needs children of various age groups for several years. She not only provides individualized ABA therapy, but also does school shadowing, assisting children in integrating into classroom settings. Children that she has worked with varies from those with behavioural issues to developmental delays. Cheryl was given the opportunity to take part in the Psychology Observation Program organized by the Institute of Mental Health, observing clinical psychologists at work with patients and attending multi-disciplinary meetings and Psychology presentations.

CHERYL KO

Haanusia is a Senior Clinical Psychologist working with children and adolescents in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Institute of Mental Health. Upon returning from a clinical attachment with Maudsley Hospital and King's College London, Haanusia set up the first Specialist Pediatric Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Clinic in Singapore. She now works with children and adolescents with OCD and other mood and anxiety conditions and spends her free time volunteering and painting. She also provides training and outreach programmes on mental health conditions for the public and other mental health professionals.

Dr Simon Collinson trained in Clinical Neuropsychology at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He holds a doctorate in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford and has held a number of clinical and academic posts in Singapore, Australia and the UK including the Departments of Psychiatry at Oxford, Charing Cross Medical School London and The Mental Health Research Institute of Victoria in Melbourne, National University Hospital and the Institute of Mental Health, Singapore. He has been the Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist in Neurosurgery at the Alfred and Cedar Court Rehabilitation Hospitals in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Collinson is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the National University of Singapore and Deputy Director of Clinical Programmes. He also works in private practice.

 

Yan Ling has been working as a psychologist with Singapore Prison Service for 4 years. She currently works with a team of psychologists, specialists and uniformed officers to set up regimes conducive for rehabilitation. She is also involved in enhancing the competencies of officers through the review of the competency checklist, and development and conducting of training for officers in rehabilitation-related knowledge and skills. Her other responsibilities include conducting violence and sexual risk assessments and interventions, and providing psychological support to staff involved in crisis. She obtained her Bachelor Degree of Social Sciences (Hons) from the National University of Singapore.

She has been working closely with the women offenders for the last five years, in particular the youth and repeat drug offenders. Her core work includes conducting assessments, and facilitating group and individual counselling sessions. Vanessa is also involved in training staff on gender-responsive correctional rehabilitation and developing gender-responsive programmes for the female youth.

In his professional work, Beng Huan consults on selection, surveys, training and development, counselling and coaching, and on occasion, design. Pamela See is an Educational & Developmental Psychologist / Director and a founding partner at Think Kids. Pamela is also one of the founding partners of Think Psychological Services, a leading private psychological practice for children and adults in Singapore.

Pamela holds a Masters in Psychology (Educational & Developmental). She is registered Psychologist with the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), AHPRA – Psychology Board of Australia, is a full member of Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) and certified in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). Pamela has extensive experience working with children with Autism and other learning difficulties in Australia, Singapore and across Southeast Asia. She is certified to administer a wide range of psychometric assessments for children such as Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals, Stanford Binet, WISC and various other abilities tests.

Pamela specialises in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). She is extensively trained in designing behavioural programs in all areas of development, education and behaviour. Agnes Teo is a Clinical Psychologist at Think Kids. She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Singapore Psychological Society. Agnes is trained in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA). She is also qualified to administer a range of psychometric assessments for adults and children with different needs.

 

Agnes has been working with children, teenagers, and adults with Autism and other special needs (such as ADHD, learning difficulties, and intellectual disabilities) for the past 10 years. She has worked in various settings including private practice, a voluntary welfare organisation and hospitals. Her work with these individuals covers an extensive range of issues such as behavioural difficulties, psychological issues, sexuality education, as well as preparation for higher education and open employment.

 

Aside from her clinical work, Agnes is certified in ABA. She is trained to design and conduct programs that are designed to address the specific needs of each child. She also supervises therapists to ensure that programs are implemented smoothly. Wee Onn graduated from the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Minor in Business) and obtained his Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2015 from the National University of Malaysia (UKM). As a clinical psychologist with the Psychology Department at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Wee Onn works in adult general psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry by providing psychological assessments and different approaches of psychotherapy. Julia is a Consultant Forensic Psychologist at Forensic Psych Services, a company she founded in May 2015. She specializes in forensic psychological assessment and provides reports on medico-legal issues relating to criminal, civil and family law for Court purposes. A scientist-practitioner, her work experiences include working in universities, hospitals, prisons and correction services, gambling treatment facilities and private clinics. She has been a pioneer in forensic-clinical work in the private sector of Singapore since 2009. Valerie Wong is a Senior Counselling Psychologist at the Clinical and Forensic Psychology Service (CFPS), Ministry of Social and Family Development. She spent 9 years in Australia and has extensive work experience with the rural population. Since joining CFPS in 2014, Valerie works in a therapeutic group home for young children presenting with high needs as a result of trauma exposure and other developmental issues. Specifically, Valerie is trained in Trauma Systems Therapy, Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy. Other areas of interest include addiction and neuroscience.

 

Mui Leng is a Clinical Psychologist and has been practicing at the Clinical and Forensic Psychology Service of the Ministry of Social and Family Development since 2010. She is skilled in conducting clinical and forensic psychological assessments of youth and adult offenders and is experienced in offender risk assessment and management. Mui Leng also delivers evidence-based treatment programs to violent and sexual offenders in the community and in residential settings, in order to reduce their re-offending risk and to support their reintegration back to their families. She is also a trained practitioner of the Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) model. A passionate advocate for quality of life and quality of death, Geraldine has rich experience in community work and social change, serving as a Medical Social Worker and Counsellor for low-income families, sick elderly, terminally ill children and caregivers. As a Counsellor and Honorary Mentor in Singapore’s biggest paediatric palliative home care team, she led the restructuring and development of standards of excellence in bereavement care for the caregivers and families of children and young adults who have died. Pamela is a behavioural sciences Research Analyst with the Home Team Behavioural Sciences Centre (HTBSC). Her research topics centre around current trends and demands, as well as forecasted needs. Her main area of specialisation is resilience (such as Crowd Psychology), which is also often in combination with terrorism-related issues. The applied research findings are then shared with different groups of people within and outside the ministry. She also conducts and speaks at various seminars, trainings, and meetings. Pamela is a trained Victim Care Officer with the Singapore Police Force.

 

Jane is a Psychologist with the Home Team Behavioural Sciences Centre (HTBSC). She undertakes research within the areas of security (e.g., terrorism and radicalisation) and resilience (e.g. Psychology of xenophobia) at HTBSC. She has presented on the Little India Riots and the role of Psychology in providing support for law enforcement officers at the Society of Police and Criminal Psychology in 2014. Jane helmed the HTBSC Internship Programme from 2014 to 2016. She is currently a psychologist with the Crisis Negotiation Unit, SPF, and Critical Incident and Stress Management (CISM) team within the Home Team, and has provided psychological support for several operations and national crises, including the Kovan double murder and Air Asia air crash. She is a graduate of Nanyang Technological University, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology.

He also has extensive experience in developing and delivering a wide range of training programmes especially in Motivational Interviewing within the addiction context. He has been certified by the Association of Professionals Specialising in Addiction Counselling (APSAC) as a Certified Clinical Supervisor, Certified Substance Abuse Counsellor, Certified Gambling Addiction Counsellor and Certified Co-Occurring Specialist. Dr. Heng holds a General Psychologist registration with the Allied Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA), Australia. He attained his qualifications as a Psychologist in Australia, and has completed placements in New South Wales Health and Queensland Health during his postgraduate training. Porsche Poh presently serves as the Executive Director of the Silver Ribbon (Singapore), Corporate Secretary of the World Federation for Mental Health and
Social Service Fellow of National Council of Social Service.


Under Porsche's leadership, the Silver Ribbon (Singapore) team works closely with
the policymakers, grassroots leaders, government agencies and community
partners. In addition, she has made several oral and poster presentations locally and internationally, sharing with participants on the needs and challenges of mental
health advocacy. In 2011, she published a book entitled 'Mental Health Revolution-Making Things Happen,' which details the mental health evolution and transformation in Singapore, and launched it at the World Mental Health Congress
in Cape Town in 2011.


For her contributions in mental health advocacy, Porsche received The Outstanding
Young Persons of Singapore (TOYP) Awards from the Junior Chamber International
in 2008, the Singapore Woman Award in 2013 and District Achievement Award from

Vimallan Manokara joined MINDS in 2010 and has a Masters of Applied Psychology (Counselling Psychology) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He currently holds the position of Applied Research Fellow/Senior Practitioner (Psychology) within the newly established MINDS Institute of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The role has dual functions of applied research and clinical practice. As applied research fellow, Vimallan works directly with other allied health practitioners, educators, operational service delivery staff and caregivers to build applied research capacity within MINDS by providing mentoring or coaching to generate research ideas, deliver applied research projects and utilise evidence-based practice. Vimallan has presented in international disability conferences. He was also invited as assistant editor of conference abstracts in the 2017 International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IASSIDD) Asia-Pacific Congress. As senior psychologist, Vimallan supports evidence-based and contemporary clinical practice as well as provides supervision to psychologists with the primary aim of to raising quality of service delivery and improving the quality of life of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Mr Eric Lim is a mindfulness psychologist at Brahm Centre. He graduated with a B.Soc.Sci. (Hons.) degree in psychology from the National University of Singapore. He spearheads the curriculum development and practice research efforts of the mindfulness programmes at the centre in the past 3 years. He is currently researching on the impact of mindfulness on sleep quality, in partnership with Duke-NUS Medical School Cognitive Neuroscience Lab. Eric delivers mindfulness courses, talks and workshops to the children, youth, adults, seniors and caregivers in both English and Mandarin. He is currently on the training pathway to become a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teacher with the Centre For Mindfulness (CFM), University of Massachusetts Medical School. In addition, he is a certified .b and Paws b teacher from the Mindfulness in Schools Project (UK), and conducts both courses for children and youths at Brahm Centre as well as in schools. He has worked with Ai Tong Primary, Hwa Chong Institution, Nanyang Girls High School, Euonia Junior College, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore Management University and National Institute of Education. Most recently, he has been awarded the merit award for being a young model caregiver at the 2017 Model Caregiver Awards organised by AWWA.

In addition to equipping clients with moderate autism with vocation and pre-vocational skills such as horticulture and office skills, Eve’s work over the past five years has focused mainly on interventions for challenging and inappropriate behaviour.


A Senior Coach at the Day Activity Centre (DAC) at St. Andrew’s Autism Centre, Eve is currently in the final phase of completing her Masters in Applied Psychology (Behaviour Analysis) from the School of Psychology at the University of Waikato. She is concurrently working on obtaining accreditation as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) under the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Part of her role at the DAC involves writing and implementing behaviour support plans for clients, training coaches on management and intervention strategies, and training and equipping parents in the Parent Support Group.

Suresh is a qualified doctor having earned his medical degree (MB ChB) from the University of Sheffield in the UK and previously worked as a medical practitioner in the UK. He is currently an APCB Certified Substance Abuse Therapist at level II and has his training certifications for treatment of PTSD/trauma from the EMDR International Institute and Phoenix Australia.

 

His previous work experience includes working within the criminal justice system in

Singapore as part of the prison psychiatric team treating individuals with an extensive range of mental health issues including addictions and serious psychiatric illness. He has also spent time in the private sector with The Cabin Group working as a counsellor for addictions and trauma at the inpatient rehab in Chiang Mai and eventually setting up The Cabin Singapore outpatient facility in Singapore as head counsellor in 2015. His teaching experience extends to teaching and lecturing on addiction medicine and trauma-related subjects.

 

He is currently in private practice as a psychotherapist specializing in treating addictions, PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.

Geraldine Tan holds a Masters in Applied Psychology and is a Doctorate Candidate of Clinical Psychology. She has almost 20 years of experience working with individuals with a multitude of psychological problems. Geraldine is trained in a number of techniques including, Choice and Reality Therapy (CTRT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Her desire to help has her fill her toolbox with exciting therapeutic methods like, Hypnotherapy, Play, Clay, Sand and Colour Therapy. She is also an ACTA accredited Trainer. She uses these techniques to help clients with clinical disorders and behavioural issues.

 

Geraldine conducts psychological testing for cognitive functioning, personality and job suitability. On top of having conducted workshops and talks for numerous organisations, Geraldine has been featured widely in the media including magazines, television and the internet to educate the public about the different disorders.

 

She is also dedicated in grooming the younger psychologists and is a registered supervisor with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP). She is one of the popular supervisor in for students in the Masters programme in both the local and overseas universities. Her centre is sought after by many undergraduates to complete their placements or internships.

 

Geraldine is a registered psychologist with the Singapore Register of Psychologists (SRP) and she is a member of Crisis Response Network (CRN), working with local and expatriates in times of crisis, conducting Critical Incident Stress Management. She is an active member in other professional bodies, including the William Glasser Institute and the Association of Group and Individual Psychotherapy.

Kenneth oversaw the conceptualisation and implementation of the SAF LD measurement to evaluate the effectiveness of SAF Leaders and LD initiatives. Kenneth also wrote a doctrine paper for SAF Leadership Styles and contributed a chapter to 2016 International Military Leadership Association (IMLA) book, “Negative Leadership: International Perspectives.”. Kenneth graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology, and obtained a Master of Science in Organisational Psychology (Distinction) at the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester.

Sophia Chua

Vocation Matching Executive

Sophia developed public polling capability for more frequent and insightful sensing of public perceptions of defence-related matters. She assisted her management and stakeholders in diagnosing defence-related perceptions for interventions, and has also participated in other organisational diagnosis work (eg. facilitating focus group discussions). Sophia is currently serving as a Vocation Matching Executive in the Defence Psychology Department and has designed and implemented a study to measure the effectiveness of the CSNS Vocation Interest initiative, through quantitative and qualitative data collection. Sophia graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Science in Psychology.
